Since this is the original track I may as well make a comment about the actual composition here lmao
I really love what you did of using a rythmic, repetitive main melody that is accompained by other slower melodies that grow in intensity as the song progresses, it manages to make it feel dynamic even while keeping that constant rythm, really good way to convey a sense of tension and mystery :)
EDIT: While it's a pretty simple theme I gotta say it's impressive that this is your first original composition ever, you did an amazing job!
I like how while Industrial Ruins felt like something from a stealth game (or a puzzle game maybe?) this version feels like something out of an action game.
I think I will have to check out your other music eventually, I've really liked the few things I've heard so far :D
honestly reading stories about how personal newgrounds can be for some people is always nice, as i also had a similar story with this site.
as of the composition, I sadly dont know enough about music to give a detailed critique other than saying i really liked the dynamics you used, it conveys the feeling of starting a new activity, gradually becoming better at it and being overcome with passion for it to then return to a feeling of peace, not in a sense of losing interest but to show that even though the inicial outburst of passion is gone (or there's not enough time to indulge in creative works like in the past due to real life issues, but maybe that's me projecting too much here :P) there's still some enjoyment in returning to it very nicely.
also I loved the choir in the climax at 2:44, I love choirs in music in general.
if anything the electronic section near the end felt a bit out of place in terms of instrumentation (but not armonies) and the guitar segment at the end also felt a bit out of place even though less so than the electronic one
Thank you for the detailed review, and of course for listening!
I feels to me like you understood the song quite well. Naturally, the parts in the end do feel a little bit out of place, as this is not a standalone song. I see that you watched the animation, so those sections are an homage to the parts where the composer realises that music has changed and evolved, but then also seeing that there will always be people with similar struggles and experiences, regardless of what changes.
P.S. I like choirs as well ^ ^
i feel the percussion during the main melody could have been more aggressive to give that frantic feeling of the original, as well as contrasting with the secondary melody, but it's a matter of personal preference.
Otherwise I really dig the gritty sound you got here, good stuff.
Your english is very understandable, but it's hard to figure out the chorus lyrics for some reason, might be the mix there or just me being tired.
I'm normally not the one to enjoy music with vocals but these complemented the instrumental very well.
Good stuff, reminds me of the kinda music I'd find in this site circa 2005-2007 but incorporating some few more modern elements (see, that bass in 0:27 that almost feels like the very start of a dubstep drop), resulting in an interesting hybrid style.
So I am not an expert in metal or anything but I absolutely love these dynamics and variations, while keeping the whole track coherent and also keeping every section memorable.
I'm also very fond of the dark and tense feeling you got here.
You claim it lacks lyrics but I personally enjoy these hiphop style beats without vocals in 'em.
As of this track, I really love it, it's very relaxing yet it has this constant underlying feeling of dread to it, the only thing I'd criticize maybe is that it's a bit repetitive, I get it's a hiphop beat so adding too much variation would be weird, but it couls have used a bit of variation with secondar melodies, since there's only the one added at 0:57 that stays there for the rest of the song.
I agree that it lacks variation, it's the main thing i struggle with, i can come up with melodies and an arrangement but i always suck at making variation
I went from "well, interesting buildup" to "HOLY FUCKING SHIT" as soon as the guitar kicked in, i would have reused the intro melody in a calmer section to further connect the intro and rest of the song, but it doesn't really feel like two separate songs so it's not a major issue.
The song still has clear techno influences but damn son it's pretty fucking good, very catchy too!
Lurker mostly, I like music, pixel art and horror art. Sometimes I create content too.
English isn't my native language so sorry in advance if I sound ruder than intended.
